Masters
Groups, ledgers, stock items, units, godowns and voucher types: creating and altering them.
Masters are the names your vouchers use: ledgers, stock items and the rest.
Create, alter and list
From the Gateway:
- C — Create opens the list of masters you can create.
- A — Alter changes an existing one.
- H — Chart of Accounts lists them.
Alt+H opens Multi-Master Creation, to create several at once.
Create a master without leaving a voucher
When a field asks for a ledger, party, stock item or location and the name doesn’t exist yet, press Alt+C in the list. Create it, accept, and its name goes straight back into the field.
What you can create
- Accounts: groups and ledgers; cost centres when Enable Cost Centres is on (F11).
- Inventory (with Maintain Inventory on): stock groups, stock categories, stock items, units and alternate units, godowns (locations), batches.
- Voucher types.
- Currencies, when Enable Multi-Currency is on.
A name that is not a real master is refused when you save a voucher, with the suggestion to pick an existing one or press Alt+C to create it.
